Julia's Learning

Julia is talking and talking these days. It seems like she says everything. She speaks in, as many as, 10-word sentences and often surprises us with what she has learned from someone else or from t.v. She knows what she wants and has no trouble telling us. This morning out of the blue she began counting in Spanish. She counted all the way to six. We assume she has learned this from watching Dora the Explorer (her favorite t.v. program) since we don't speak Spanish. The other day she was watching a cooking show with me and said, "delicioso" when seeing a chocolate cake. She can rote count to 14 in English and count objects too. She can recite the alphabet. She can tell us her full name, including middle name and Mommy and Daddy's names. She also named several shapes in a book the other day including triangle, star, square, etc., none of which we have taught her. She is picking up on things everyday from her environment.
She is good at pretend play. She loves playing in her kitchen- she can name many items of food, often making cakes and milkshakes with her mixer and blender. She also loves to play with her barn and can name the animals and their sounds. Her baby dolls are also some of her favorite play items. She swaddles them, feeds them, and sings "Rock-a-Bye Baby to them. She also sings
"Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", "Ring around the Rosies", and "Row, Row, Row Your Boat". Sometimes she gets her toy airplane loaded and tells us she is going on a trip to the beach explaining that she'll need her life jacket, swimsuit, and sunglasses. She also likes drawing, coloring and playing with play-doh. We are amazed how she is learning and growing every day. We laugh and laugh just waiting to see what she'll do next.
