Cast Off, but There's More to the Story. . .

 Joseph's cast was taken off on Thursday. The doctor told us that he could walk on his leg immediately, but when we put him down at the doctor, he would not bear weight on his right leg. He kept saying, "Cast Off" and "Leg Hurt". He continued this way until Friday afternoon when the babysitter's daughter (@13 years old) was able to get him to walk a little bit; however, over the weekend he did not walk anymore. Every time we tried to get him to walk, he would cry and refuse. We encouraged him, and then succumbed to begging and bribing him, but nothing worked. When I dropped him off at the babysitter's, Mrs. Cindy's, house on Monday morning, I explained to her what had happened over the weekend, expressed my concern, and relayed to her that we must get him to walk again. To my surprise, that afternoon he was walking everywhere. When I asked her when he began walking, she explained that he had crawled over to the table at lunchtime and climbed into his chair. She then started a conversation with him about how she didn't know how he was going to start school because he wouldn't be able to walk to the school bus. (He loves looking out her window at school buses and shouts in the car each time he sees one) She said that he was listening intently and she could tell that the little wheels of his brain were turning. . . She also told him that he would not be able to go shopping any longer because all of the people would step on him while he was crawling on the ground. So after lunch, he got up from his chair and began walking and hasn't turned back since. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the magic of Mrs. Cindy. Who would have thought that you could reason with a 22-month old. We had pleaded and threatened and enticed him, but it never occurred to us to reason with him.
